Literacy Enrichment  Program

School Boat Bus Program

Nutrition Program

From Resources to Resilience: Building Sustainable Education on Siargao Island

For children living across Siargao’s remote island communities, going to school can mean crossing the sea. Limited access to transportation and learning resources can make education a daily challenge. To help address these barriers, Sports City partnered with Calls Over Ridges Philippines on the Calls Over Ridges X Sports City | 2025 Education Program, supporting local communities through three education initiatives.

The partnership was grounded in a community-first approach—working with local leaders, teachers, and parents to develop solutions that respond to local needs and can continue within the community.

Literacy Enrichment Program

In Anajawan, we established a Creative Library Space equipped with books, laptops, a projector, and Wi-Fi, creating a safe and engaging environment for children to read and learn. The program also introduced locally rooted learning materials, including The Sailing Stories of Dandoy, using storytelling to spark children’s imagination and curiosity.

School Boat Bus Program

Severe typhoon damage disrupted local transportation and made it more difficult for children to travel to school. The program provided a dedicated school boat, helping students safely travel between islands and restoring a more reliable connection to education. As Sports City ESG Lead Sasaya shared, “The school boat is more than a means of transportation—it is a bridge connecting students to the knowledge and future they deserve.”

Nutrition Program

In San Mateo, the program connected parent empowerment with child health through culinary training and a community-managed catering model. Profits from the initiative are reinvested into free nutritious lunches for schoolchildren, while GANA sa Isla, a community-developed cookbook, brings local food knowledge into the program.

On June 28, 2025, the projects were formally turned over to local leaders in General Luna. More than the completion of a project, the milestone marked the beginning of community-led continuity.

As President Gary shared, “Education is where hope begins — and how we shape the future.”

At Sports City, we believe lasting change begins when communities have the ability to carry it forward. Through continued action, we will keep supporting education and opening new possibilities for children around the world.
